Memorial Days Ceremonies at Oriskany

The Village of Oriskany would like to invite the public to attend the Memorial Day ceremonies taking place this Monday, May 27, 2024 starting at 9:00 am.

On Monday morning, the member organizations of the Oriskany American Legion Post # 1448 will pay their respects at the Oriskany Cemetery on the corner of Cider Street and Manor Lane in the village.

The public is invited and encouraged to join the group at the cemetery at 9:00 am.

Established in 1833, the Oriskany Cemetery is the final resting place for veterans from nearly every era of American history, from the Revolutionary War through today.

The group will then proceed to Trinkaus Park (420 Utica Street), for continued remembrances at 10:00 am near the USS Oriskany Anchor Memorial. Students from Oriskany Central School will present several patriotic selections, including “In Flanders Field” and the “Gettysburg Address.” The N. A. Walbran Sixth Grade Chorus will perform “America the Beautiful” and a Memorial Day speech will be presented by Oriskany Central School Salutatorian, Madelyn Race. This will be followed by the placing of wreaths and the American Legion ceremony.

Master of Ceremonies will be Oriskany Deputy Mayor Paul Rieben. On hand from the American Legion will be Post Commander Edward VanDyke and the members of the American Legion, the Sons of the American Legion, and the Oriskany Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

The Oriskany Museum in Trinkaus Park will be open from the conclusion of the ceremonies until noon. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.
